Popular Pearl Enamel Effects for Custom Pins
Standard Pearl Effect
You may have seen enamel pins with a soft pearl-like shine in certain areas. This pearl effect is created by mixing pearl powder into the enamel material. The effect is calculated by the number of pearl colors used. You can choose different pearl powder colors and apply them to different areas of your design.
The enamel pin shown here uses two different pearl powder colors, white and pink, to create a smooth and elegant finish.
Gradient Pearl Effect
If your design includes gradient colors, gradient pearl effect can be a great option. It can replace the original color areas or be added on top of enamel colors to create a smooth and natural blended effect.
- Common method: Mix pearl powder with enamel and gradually apply different pearl colors in the same area. But not ideal for large areas.
- Alternative method: Manually apply pearl powder after filling the enamel to achieve a more natural gradient effect.
- Budget option: Use pearl enamel as the base and add the gradient through UV printing. Slightly less natural but more affordable.
Swirl Pearl Effect
This pearl effect is ideal for cloud designs, fantasy themes, and decorative backgrounds on enamel pins. Since the swirl process is handmade, each swirl pearl effect is unique, but the overall style can still be controlled.
Recommendation: choose slightly darker pearl enamel colors, as swirling patterns look lighter than the base shade. Very light colors may make the effect less visible.
Designing Custom Enamel Pins with Pearl Effects
When to Choose Pearl Effect
Pearl effect is a popular choice when you want to add more depth and texture to specific areas of your pin design without distracting from the main design elements.
Apply to Selected Areas
You don't need to cover the entire pin with the pearl effect. Many custom pin designs apply pearl effects only to selected areas such as backgrounds or decorative details.
Mind the Area Size
Choose a suitable area size for pearl effects on the enamel pin. If the area is too small, the difference between regular enamel and pearl effect may not be noticeable.
Combine with Other Effects
Pearl effects can be mixed with uv printing, silk screen printing and many other effects in your design. Contact our team to review your artwork for the best combination.

What does pearl enamel look like on custom pins?
The pearl powders commonly used for enamel pins usually range from around 100 mesh to 2000 mesh. A higher mesh number means finer particles, creating a smoother and more delicate pearl effect, but with a slightly softer shine compared with larger particles.
Unlike glitter enamel, which creates visible sparkling points, pearl enamel produces a smooth and gentle light reflection, similar to the appearance of silk or natural pearls.
Does pearl enamel increase the price of custom pins?
Yes. Except for UV printing, most special effects on enamel pins require additional manual processing, and pearl enamel is no exception. The use of pearl powder requires additional labor during production, which increases the production cost. The number of pearl effect colors used in your design will affect the final price.
As a general estimate, one pearl effect color may add around $0.19 per pin, depending on the design and order quantity. If you get a discount from our sales representative, the additional cost can be even lower.
Can pearl enamel be used with soft enamel and hard enamel pins?
Yes. Simply put, pearl effect is created by replacing regular enamel colors with pearl enamel materials. Of course, the actual production process is more complicated than this, but this explanation helps you understand the basic idea. Unlike silk screen printing, which requires a smooth and flat surface, pearl enamel does not have this limitation. So it works well with both soft enamel and hard enamel pins.
