How to Design an Awareness Ribbon Pin
Choose the Right Ribbon Pin Size
Most awareness ribbon pins are between 0.75 and 1.25 inches in size. If your design includes additional elements such as text, symbols, or special effects, the size can be expanded to around 1.5 to 2 inches.
Select the Right Plating Finish
Gold plating and silver plating are the most common choices for awareness ribbon pins. They match well with most ribbon colors and work for a wide range of campaigns. Some customers also choose special finishes such as black nickel or rose gold plating to create a different visual style. These finishes usually cost more than standard gold or silver plating because they require additional chemical treatment during the plating process.
Adding Text or Small Details
“Can I add a name, date, logo, or short message to my ribbon pin?” This is one of the most common questions we receive from customers.
The answer is yes!
If you want to keep the original ribbon shape unchanged, there are three common ways to add these details:
- Metal engraving: A good choice for soft enamel ribbon pins. The engraved text, logo, or details will keep the same color as the plating. No additional mold fee is required.
- Screen printing: Suitable for hard enamel ribbon pins. Screen printing supports multiple colors and complex patterns. The cost is around $15 per color added to the total order price, not the unit price.
- Laser engraving: Suitable for adding names, dates or simple details directly on finished ribbon pins. It only works well for hard enamel awareness ribbon pins. Our factory offers free laser engraving service.
Of course, some designs may go beyond the original ribbon shape to add more details. For example, the purple butterfly ribbon pin shown below combines the ribbon design with a butterfly shape.
For this type of custom awareness ribbon pin, the cost may increase slightly because the mold size and shape need to be redesigned. In the example above, the butterfly wings use a stained glass effect, which requires additional manual work during production. These special details will naturally increase the production cost.
However, if these design elements strongly match your campaign message or design concept, the additional cost can be worthwhile.
