When you request a solid metal coin with raised details and no color fill, the correct industry term is a die struck coin. Typically minted from brass, bronze, or iron, these coins are formed by stamping metal sheets under high pressure with heavy-duty engraved dies, delivering sharp, crisp, and high-relief metal lines.
Soft Enamel & Hard Enamel Coins
When custom colors are injected into the recessed metal areas of a coin, it becomes an enamel coin. The distinction lies entirely in the baking and polishing process.
When the enamel color is lower than the metal lines, it is called soft enamel. When the color is polished flat with the metal surface, it is called hard enamel.
3D Die Cast Coin
Some coins feature a three-dimensional relief effect. These are usually made through the die cast process, where molten zinc alloy is poured into a carved mold and solidifies into a detailed 3D shape.
Laser Engraved Coin
Laser engraving is another commonly used effect on challenge coins. It usually creates very shallow lines around 0.01–0.1 mm deep on the coin surface, which feels almost flat.

Yes, we can help simplify and stylize photos—like portraits or buildings—into coin-ready artwork. Please note this involves converting complex images into 2D or 3D linework, not photorealistic printing.
How many times can I revise the artwork?
There’s no strict limit on how many times you can revise your artwork before the final approval. You can request changes as many times as needed during the proofing stage, and our reps will work with you patiently until you’re completely satisfied with the result. If you’re unsure about certain effects or details, we can help you confirm them during the sampling phase. But once the final design is approved and production has started, any further changes will likely incur additional costs such as mold adjustments or labor fees.
Can both sides of the coin have different designs?
Absolutely! You can have completely different artwork on the front and back. Just keep in mind that adding a second design might slightly increase mold and production costs.
Do you offer edge text or custom edge designs?
Yes, we can add engraved text, rope patterns, diamond-cut edges, and other decorative borders to the edge of your coin. Let us know during the design stage and we’ll include it in your proof.
What's the difference between 2D and 3D challenge coins?
Yes, we offer basic design assistance such as removing backgrounds, changing colors, adjusting text, and converting your artwork into a format suitable for production. However, we don’t provide original creative design services—if you need someone to create a brand-new image or logo for you, we recommend hiring a professional designer or illustrator first. Once you have your artwork, our team will be happy to help you polish it for pin production.
What is your minimum order quantity for challenge coins?
Our minimum order quantity (MOQ) is just 30 pieces.
However, we recommend ordering 50 pieces or more to get significantly better pricing per unit. The higher your quantity, the lower the unit cost—without compromising quality.
How long does production take?
Most orders are completed in about 3–4 weeks depending on the complexity. Mold making takes 3–5 days, and plating, polishing, and coloring follow. If your coin includes custom edges, 3D sculpting, or dual plating, it may take a bit longer.
Will the final coin match the proof exactly?
We do our best to match your approved proof, especially with metal color and layout. Some slight variation may occur due to manual coloring or plating reactions, but it won’t affect quality or overall appearance. If there’s a significant mismatch caused by production, we’ll remake it at no cost.
What materials are used for challenge coins?
We typically use copper or zinc alloy depending on your design needs. Copper is great for high-detail and premium finishes, while zinc alloy is better for large or irregular-shaped coins due to its flexibility and lower mold cost.
How is your pricing determined?
We price each project based on your specific design and the production process involved. As a direct manufacturer, our pricing is based strictly on actual production costs — no hidden fees.
